Father and Son Friendly Face-Off of Fun

When Aimee first told me she wanted to get a gift certificate for a guide trip as Christmas gifts for her husband and father-in-law, I thought, "Great idea, I should make some of those!" With her help and guidance, and the power of PhotoShop and Microsoft Publisher, that's exactly what I did. And it was awesome when I got the calls from Ed and Eric, in great anticipation, wanting to use them.

I am so glad we picked the right day. It was chilly in the morning, but that didn't bother any of us.  I told Eric and Ed that the Bonefish had started to show again, and we had a great chance of catching one or two. When we pulled up to the first spot however, it was the Yellow Fin Croaker that came to play. And play they did. In big numbers, and good sized fish too. Unfortunately, they were eating our inventory of Ghost Shrimp faster than the Bonefish could get to. We had to leave that spot if we wanted something different. It was a hard choice to make; leaving fish to find fish, but it had to be done to get our baits to the targetted fish of that day. It worked, and within a few casts in the new spot, Ed got that favorable zinging sound on his Quantum Catalyst PTs spinning reel, and with in a few runs, we had a nice 1.5 pound Pacific Bonefish for him to pose with.

After exhausting all of our live bait, and only catching a few small Spotted Bay bass with what we had, we decided to try some deeper water jaunts for some Halibut, Sand Bass, and big Spotties. It soon paid off for Ed when he caught a Halibut almost instantly. Of course, it was far from making the cut on the ruler, and was released after the photo. None-the-less, Ed was the man with the species checklist, and a mission to leave no box unchecked. Eric soon got in on the Bay Bass action, however, and managed a few fish out of his many that he deemed photo worthy.

It was great having these two aboard, especially at the times when Ed would razz Eric over a missed hookset while reeling in another nice one himself. Nothing like that father son spirit to make the day entertaining. It really did seem that Ed had the magic touch on his reel sets. Keep practicing Eric, you'll get it. These two shared many doubles along the way, and I got to share a great time on the bay with two great gentlemen. Thank you Aimee.

Over 70 Sand Bass (barred and spotted) caught and released, 3 Halibut released, 1 Bonefish released, 9 Yellow Fin Croaker caught - 5 kept, 4 released.

 Thank you for reading,

James
